We are going to visit one of the five national parks of Montenegro. Skadar Lake is located in the southeast of Montenegro and is the largest inland body of water on the Balkan Peninsula. This tour is a very special trip for bird watchers. The low shores of the lake are covered with barely penetrable reed home to numerous water birds. It is Europe's largest bird sanctuary with over 270 species of birds, as numerous as the amount of fish.
During our route we will stop at Sveti Stefan for a photo shoot. It is one of the most idyllic places on the Adriatic coast. The village situated on the peninsula (originally a fishing village) was one of the most popular destinations for the rich until the early nineties. Among the famous guests include Claudia Schiffer, Sylvester Stallone and Elizabeth Taylor.
We continue to Virpazar, located on Skadar Lake. The town is our starting point for our boat trip around the lake.
Virpazar
On the hill above Virpazar lies the fort of Besac built in the 16th century by the Ottomans. For centuries Virpazar was the border between the Orthodox and Muslim world. After a delicious fresh fish platter in Virpazar we tour Skadar Lake by boat. During this cruise we enjoy beautiful views and hope to spot kingfishers and pelicans.
